Herefordshire Council Fostering Service

Fostering is everything from short-term, emergency and short breaks at weekends or in the holidays to long-term care for a child, usually until they reach adulthood. Fostering can be caring for newborn babies to teenagers, or supporting young people into independence. It’s everything you think it is and so much more. It’s everything to us and can make such a difference for a child in care, helping them to feel safe, loved, thrive and reach their full potential.

We need all kinds of carers to offer a range of homes from long and short term to specialist pieces of work with children facing challenges in their lives.

You will receive a fees to recognise your time and skills, and allowances to cover costs for the child. This varies depending on your skill level and the age of the child. Fees range from £120 per week basic level, to £1000 for specialist fostering. Child’s allowances range from £185 per week for children under 4, to £282 per week for children age 16 and over. You also receive additional payments, including mileage and special payments for things such as birthdays.

Herefordshire Council Foster Carers also receive Council Tax exemption.

You can foster alongside your job or any other commitments that you may have, providing you do have the time to care for a child.
