Dal Dy Dir @ The Forest Cottages

Dal Dy Dir provides respite, supported breaks and residential placements for families with autism and other disabilities. We understand that the cost of specialist holidays can be prohibitive, so we have created a cost effective 6 day short term supported package at our primary location based in Newtown, Powys.
About us
Dal Dy Dir is a charitable organisation working with individuals and their families with a range of disabilities including autism spectrum, Down’s syndrome, dementia, mental health and others. Using our rurally based four acre site in Newtown, Mid Wales, Dal Dy Dir is able to offer emergency respite placements, respite breaks and day services. We have a philosophy of working with both individuals and their families using an inclusive family approach to ensure the most positive outcome possible for the long term. All experienced professionals, our team are carefully selected for their dedication to both the charity and its clients.
Through daily activities, an individual development plan and ongoing support and encouragement, our supported breaks make a massive difference to challenges that the families are facing. We work hard to enable families to spend time together as a whole and provide support to improve relationships and provide opportunities to bond as a family. The access to 1-2-1 coaching sessions provide family members space to discuss their issues, make plans to cope with crisis and move forwards. Coaching, counselling and crisis intervention are all part of the interventions on offer and are not only for the individual but also for the family as a whole. This means that we can target wider issues within a family context and develop plans for when families return home. The experience is individually tailored to directly impact the areas where the families feel they need support.
Location
We are based at The Forest Country Cottages which is a beautiful four acre holiday complex, nestled in a magnificent valley on the outskirts of Kerry which offers four cosy and comfortable cottages with all the amenities of home. Their tennis court, games room, play area, paddocks and extensive mature gardens provides Dal Dy Dir with the scope it needs. We use a range of animals as therapeutic learning tools including goats, sheep and chickens. In addition to this, we provide sensory learning lessons and rural based activities such as our Forest School sessions and music workshops to give the whole family a chance to learn new skills in a supported warm and safe environment.
