The Plynlimon Trust

Plynlimon Trust operates a number of projects including the Horizon training centre. For 30 years the Trust has run a Community Transport scheme carrying in the region of 11,500 passenger trips each year on specially adapted minibuses. The Trust also holds a contract to deliver the ESFA Study Programme for 16-19 year olds, and apprenticeships.
For apprenticeships we deliver business administration and catering. We have developed good relationships with external agencies who we receive referrals from. The students have many social and emotional barriers to learning.
Students join the programme through schools, colleges, youth offending, by word of mouth, advertising and open days.
We work with local schools to provide alternative education opportunities for 14 and 15 year olds to build links in order to provide progression routes for school leavers.
All of the areas in which we work have common issues such as high levels of unemployment, poor school achievement rates and rurality. While participation rates for young people are now at their highest ever the NEET (Not in education employment or training) group still remains a problem. In each area we are actively working with local partners to reduce this number through a range of initiatives.
