Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA)

The IMHA service will provide you with an experienced trained advocate, if you are sectioned under the Mental Health Act and are aged 18 and over.

The advocate will:

  • Support you to understand your rights under the Mental Health Act
  • Support you to put forward your views
  • Attend ward reviews, tribunals and manager's hearings with you
  • Help you to access expert advice and information
  • Raise concerns on your behalf about your experience and care
  • Act on your behalf
  • Engage with the care planning process

The IMHA service is independent of any other service.
