Home Start Herefordshire

Home-Start believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents play the key role in giving their children a good start in life and helping them to achieve their full potential.

Home-Start Herefordshire is an independent charity which offers support, friendship and practical help to families who are experiencing stress and finding it hard to cope and have at least one child between 0-19.

Home-Start offers a unique service.

We recruit and train volunteers who are usually parents themselves to visit families at home and offer them informal, friendly and confidential support.

Home-Start Herefordshire give support, friendship and encouragement to families in their own homes once a week. Our volunteers will visit a family in need once a week for 2/3 hours. They provide support in all sort of ways, including signposting, hands on help, working with new strategies and encouraging families to move on with their lives in a happier state and frame of mind.

The families we support are mainly referred to us from other professional services but self referrals can be made too. Families have all sorts of different struggles, from a child's bad behaviour to redundancy, bereavement to abuse of all different kinds.

We have been providing this amazingly supportive service for over 40 years throughout the county. Without the continuous recruitment of new volunteers along with fundraising we would not have a service.
