Gigrin Farm Red Kite Feeding Centre

We are a 160 acre family-run working farm, famous for our Red Kite Feeding Centre. Hundreds of Red Kites feed here every day. It is a truly breath-taking spectacle which we hope you will come along and witness for yourself.

The Red Kite Centre is located in the most beautiful countryside, in the heart of Mid Wales, overlooking both the Wye and Elan Valleys, and just half a mile from the market town of Rhayader. The Kites are fed once daily.  We have general hides for you to watch from, as well as specialist photographic hides, all of which are just a few metres away from where the Red Kites are fed.

There is a coffee shop, gift shop, picnic site, and farm trail on site.

Everyone is welcome. We cater for families, specialist photographers, film-makers, schools trips and coaches.

Disabled Access

The farmyard is tarmac coated, sloping in parts. The two ground floors of the coffee shop are suitable for wheelchair users and are accessible via separate doors, but the upper floor is only accessible via a short set of steps.  The gift shop is all ground floor.

There is an outdoor covered seating area. There is a disabled toilet located on the farmyard.  The hides are 130 metres away from the farmyard.  The walk to them follows a farm track with a gentle slope up and through the picnic area, followed by a slightly uneven track with a gentle downward slope to the hides.

It is possible for disabled persons to drive down to the hides and park alongside them (please let us know when you arrive if you wish to do this).  Due to the uneven terrain the farm trail is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Parking - the main car park is located on the farmyard but we are able to provide limited parking immediately outside the hides for disabled persons (as per above).

The Hides – three of our regular hides are wheelchair friendly with ramps and internal access. As the farm can be very busy during the summer period/school holidays, and because the hides fill up very quickly, it is advisable to arrive, park up and acquire a place inside the hide well before kite feeding time.
