Baton of Hope 2025

The Baton of Hope is the UK's largest suicide prevention initiative and is part of a growing movement working towards a zero-suicide society. You can read more about the vision and mission on the Baton of Hope website

In 2025 the Baton of Hope will tour the UK, with the aim of opening up a national conversation about suicide, to reduce stigma and to create unity with the suicide prevention community.

On 2nd October 2025 the Baton of Hope will come to Herefordshire.

There are plenty of ways to get involved, from supporting on the day, to creating and coordinating events in your local community, to becoming better informed about suicide prevention. Find out more below!

Organisations and businesses can make a 'workplace pledge' to remove and eradicate the stigma around mental health in the workplace, increase awareness of suicide, improve and do our best to save lives and make suicide awareness, support and prevention a priority.

Help us to create Animals of Hope’.

Each animal should be no taller than 30cm. These handmade creatures will be hidden across Hereford as part of our Under-5s ‘Hunt for Hope’ trail, each carrying a heartfelt note of hope written by a local primary school child.

To mark the Baton of Hope coming to Herefordshire, Talk Community is offering small grants of up to £150 to local organisations, groups, and hubs across the county.

Although the baton’s journey will take place through Hereford city, we want the message of hope, connection, and support for mental health to reach every part of Herefordshire—our market towns, rural villages, and communities large and small. This grant is here to help you bring people together in your area, so that everyone can be part of this important moment.

What is it?

We want to make it easy for you to bring people together. Whether that’s a simple coffee morning, a pop-up afternoon tea, or something creative in your neighbourhood. Your event doesn’t have to be big. In fact, we know the power of small very well, sometimes the best connections start with a single conversation.

We particularly welcome ideas like:

  • Coffee mornings, afternoon teas, or drop-in sessions with free refreshments
  • Community picnics or lunch clubs
  • Arts and crafts activities focused on hope, connection, or mental wellbeing
  • Information stands, signposting, or small talks/discussions
  • Any gathering that helps people connect, talk, and feel less alone
