Check if You're Eligible for a Free Flu Vaccine

05 October 2026

As winter approaches, the NHS is encouraging everyone who is eligible to book their free flu vaccination and help protect themselves, their loved ones, and local health services during the colder months.

Flu is not just a bad cold. It can lead to serious illness and complications, particularly for older people, young children, pregnant women, and those living with certain long-term health conditions.

The flu vaccination programme is now open to all eligible groups, including:

  • People aged 65 and over
  • Pregnant women
  • Adults with certain long-term health conditions
  • Care home residents
  • Unpaid carers
  • People who are in close contact with someone who is immunocompromised
  • Frontline health and social care workers
  • People experiencing homelessness
  • Children aged 2 and 3 years old
  • School-aged children

Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of becoming seriously unwell this winter.

How to book

Most eligible people can book their flu vaccination:

  • Through the NHS App
  • Online at www.nhs.uk/bookflu
  • By calling 119 if you cannot get online

Many people can also receive their flu vaccine at participating community pharmacies. Pregnant women may also be able to get vaccinated through their maternity service.

More ways to stay well this winter

Alongside the flu vaccine, some people may also be eligible for other seasonal vaccinations, including COVID-19, RSV and pneumococcal vaccines. These help protect against illnesses that can become more serious during the winter months.

If you're unsure what you're eligible for, speak to your GP practice, pharmacy, or visit the NHS website for the latest information.
