Funding available for local nature and biodiversity projects

04 June 2026

Community groups and organisations in Herefordshire can now apply for funding through the Nature and Biodiversity Community Grant Scheme, supporting projects that protect and enhance the local environment.

Grants are available from a minimum of £500 up to £10,000, with applications of up to £35,000 considered where significant benefits can be demonstrated.

The scheme supports practical, community‑led projects that improve biodiversity and create greener spaces across the county. This could include activities such as planting trees or wildflowers, creating wildlife habitats, restoring green spaces, or developing community nature areas.

Funding is open to a range of applicants including community groups, charities, schools and parish councils. Projects should show how they will benefit local wildlife, improve natural habitats or help people better connect with nature.

As well as environmental benefits, the scheme encourages projects that bring communities together, create volunteering opportunities and support wellbeing.

The scheme is open for applications now, with a deadline of midnight on 31 August 2026.
