Pension Credit Week of Action: 12 October - 16 October 2026
12 October 2026
Pension Credit Week of Action (12-16 October 2026) is encouraging people to challenge common myths about Pension Credit and check whether they could be entitled to extra financial support.
Thousands of people of State Pension age miss out on Pension Credit every year because they mistakenly believe they won't qualify. In reality, many people who own their home, have savings, receive a private pension or are still working could still be eligible.
Common Pension Credit Myths
"I own my home, so I won't qualify"
Owning your home does not automatically rule you out. The value of your home is not taken into account when Pension Credit entitlement is calculated.
"I have savings, so I can't claim"
You may still be eligible. The first £10,000 of savings is ignored, and only a small amount is counted towards your income calculation for savings above this threshold.
"I already receive a State Pension"
Pension Credit is paid in addition to your State Pension and could boost your weekly income.
"If I'm entitled, I'll get it automatically"
Pension Credit is not awarded automatically. You need to check your eligibility and make a claim.
Why It Matters
Pension Credit can provide valuable extra income and may also unlock additional support with costs such as housing, heating and council tax. Even a small award could help you access a range of other benefits and discounts.
If you're of State Pension age, or know someone who is, it's worth taking a few minutes to check eligibility.
