Community Spaces Capital Grant Scheme

The Community Spaces Improvements Capital Grant Scheme supports projects that will build new capacity and make positive changes within communities across Herefordshire. Through this programme, voluntary and community organisations can apply for funding to create inclusive, multi-purpose spaces that enhance community connections and services.

The scheme is designed to:

  • Transform and improve existing or unused buildings for community benefit.
  • Create spaces for communities to connect and for local events and activities.
  • Increase opportunities for residents to access integrated services within their communities.
  • Target areas with health inequalities and deprivation to support greater access and inclusion.

Projects applying for this grant must demonstrate:

  • Multi-purpose and flexible use.
  • Inclusivity, with services and activities for all ages, fostering a whole-family approach.
  • Support for local delivery of statutory services.
  • Location in areas of need, with clear community engagement to address local requirements.

Funding Details

This is a capital-only scheme, covering physical works and associated professional fees (including non-recoverable VAT). Eligible expenses include:

  • Equipment, furnishings, and other major material purchases.
  • Renovations, refurbishment, and remodelling of outdated facilities.
  • Construction of new facilities or purchase of land.
  • Professional fees (e.g., legal, architectural, and engineering costs).

Key Criteria for Projects

To qualify, projects should aim to incorporate some of the following elements:

  • IT Equipment for professional co-location and statutory service delivery.
  • Community Connection Spaces for events and gatherings.
  • Easy Access to Help and Support through effective communication.
  • Physical Access Points where residents can speak to trained staff/volunteers for information and advice.
  • Tailored Services that meet local community needs.
  • A welcoming, family-friendly environment open to all age groups.
  • Full Accessibility to serve all community members, including seldom-heard and vulnerable groups.
  • Demonstrated Need with evidence of resident engagement.

Who Can Apply?

  • Voluntary and community organisations
  • Constituted groups or clubs
  • Registered charities and CIOs
  • Not-for-profit organisations
  • Community interest companies (CICs)
  • State and independent schools (projects must benefit the community beyond the curriculum)
  • Town and parish councils
  • Community benefit societies
  • Community amateur sports clubs
  • Religious organizations (for non-religious community benefit projects)

Funding Amounts

  • Minimum grant: £15,000
  • Maximum grant: £250,000

Application Process

The Expression of Interest stage opens on 6th January 2025. To apply, complete the Expression of Interest form below before 6th March 2025.
